"The Fall/Winter 2019 collection entitled “Supernature” revisits the still life genre through a contemporary digital approach. Consistent with the brand designer’s taste for contrast and playful provocation, this seasonal print is an homage to both the impressionist painters, in particular Renoir, and modern photographer Erwin Olaf.
The seasonal print, called “Hortense”, paints bouquets of flowers in varying arrangements, using them as exercises on shapes and colours and provoking delight in mixing different species. The pale pink and fuchsia roses are intermingled with vivid blue touches and with other white flowers and greenery. The warm and cold tones interplay with one another and are accentuated by the black background against which they stand out.
The collection presents a selection of bold colours from fuchsia to electric blue, mixing them with pastel pink and pale blue, continuing in the house’s direction in deriving a colour pantone from the seasonal print to create plain styles and specific fastenings and closures.
Cuts and silhouettes, reminiscent of the 70s and early 80s, continue to demonstrate the designer’s signature high waist tailored jumpsuits and ample sleeves, an homage to Yves Saint Laurent in the form of a printed velvet suit, an extravagant pink faux fur and features the iconic Camus jumpsuit, Eupraxia blouse and Alice shirt in the Hortense print. The collection moves into deep printed and lamé velvets, Italian silks and black and pale pink vinyl.
Music and arts continue to be a source of inspiration for the designer, who called each style with the names of artists from the period: Bette, Ringo… Circling back on the collection name “Supernature”, which is both a nostalgic lookback at Laura’s childhood bands and a reflection of the brand’s attachment to the ever evanescent botanical world.
